US invoice template

Write a commercial invoice for a sale in the United States and download a PDF. The page starts in US dollars. It does not file a sales-tax return.

What you type stays in this browser. The server does not keep the PDF.

Choosing a country opens that page and keeps what you have typed.

Type the sales-tax rate for this sale. This page does not look up a state rate and does not ask for a Social Security number.

How to fill this in

A US invoice bills the customer for goods or services you have supplied. Put in the invoice number, the supplier, the customer, the issue date, and a due date if you use one. Line prices stay in USD unless you choose another currency.

Sales tax is not one national rate. States, and often cities or counties, decide whether the sale is taxed and at what rate. Type the rate for this sale, or leave it empty when you are not charging sales tax. The PDF is the invoice you send. It is not a return you file with a state revenue department.

Choose A4 or US Letter before you download. Empty dates, rates, and business numbers stay empty.

FAQ

Does one sales-tax rate cover the whole United States?

No. State and local rules differ. This page does not look up a rate. Type the rate that applies to this sale.

Is this invoice a sales-tax filing?

No. The PDF is the bill for the customer. It does not report tax to a state or to the IRS.

What if this sale is not taxed?

Leave the sales-tax rate empty. The PDF is then printed without a sales-tax row.
